Day of the Polish Underground State – 27 September 2022

We invite you to watch an aducational video prepared by the Cracow branch of the IPN about the Home Army (English subtitles).

27 September marks the Day of the Polish Underground State. It commemorates the founding of the Polish Victory Service on 27 September 1939, in besieged Warsaw — an organization that was to continue the fight against the invaders. During the defensive war in September 1939, the building of the structures of the Polish Underground State began, and its armed forces became the most important element. Soon, on 4 December 1939, the Prime Minister of the Polish government-in-exile, General Władysław Sikorski, established the Union of Armed Struggle, which was transformed into the Home Army — the secret Polish Army — on 14 February 1942.
