Karol Nawrocki, Ph.D., the President of the Institute of National Remembrance, pointed out the profound message the name of the event carries:
The title of this review shows how important the past is and that history not only determines our identity, but also our future. (...) I also feel obliged to say a few words about the Foundation's patron, the late Janusz Kurtyka, who was my predecessor. This is a man whom I did not have the opportunity to meet in person, but who has accompanied me throughout my professional life. (...) He once said that the Institute of National Remembrance does not verify history, but that it studies it and that the Institute of National Remembrance has the courage to talk about history as it really was.

Speaking about the achievements and historical sensitivity of Prof. Janusz Kurtyka, President  Nawrocki stressed that the IPN is in possesion of over 93 kilometers of files, thanks to which the work of all the Institute's offices is possible. We are also going further and further, looking for new ways to talk about the past and to nurture the memory of our heroes.

The Janusz Kurtyka Award is a multifunctional project  created to promote the best books by Polish historians, translated into foreign languages as part of the award, worldwide. The Foundation's goal is to expand language accessibility and promote exceptional historical books published on the domestic market.

One of the laureates the "Friends of the Foundation" award was Filip Musiał, Ph.D. - Director of the Cracow Branch of the Institute of National Remembrance and the The Museum of Cursed Soldiers and Political Prisoners of the Polish People's Republic.
