Prof. Karol Polejowski with the official government delegation visited Iceland

The Deputy President of the IPN, Prof. Karol Polejowski, together with Jan Dziedziczak, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Adam Kwiatkowski, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland and representatives of the Polish Parliament, took part in the official celebration of the Polish Day and Polish Heritage Month with the Polish community in Iceland.

Flowers were laid at the Fossvogskirkjugarður cemetery in Reykjavik at the grave of the sailors of the Polish ship "Wigry", which sank in a heavy storm off the coast of Iceland on 15 January 1942. 25 out of 27 crew members died, including 12 Poles, with Captain Władysław Grabowski. The grave of the sailors was restored thanks to the cooperation of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, and the Institute of National Remembrance.

Later in the afternoon, Prof. Polejowski took part in the Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop David Tencer OFMCap in the Cathedral of Christ the King in Reykjavik. After the Eucharist, Bishop Tencer blessed the banner of the John Paul II Polish School, which is attended by over 300 children.
