More than 200 boards of the IPN’s nation-wide outdoor exhibition "This is where Solidarity was born" have been erected at Solidarności Square in Gdańsk. The exhibition depicts not only the most famous places of the August strikes, such as Gdańsk or Szczecin, but even the smallest Polish towns, where in the summer of 1980 Poles decided to defend their rights and fight peacefully for their dignity.
This exhibition was created to tell the story of a free, sovereign and independent Poland,
emphasized Karol Nawrocki, Ph.D. during the opening.
The ceremony, headed by Krzysztof Drażba (Head of the IPN’s National Education Office, Gdańsk branch), was attended by, among others Kacper Płażyński, Member of Parliament of the Republic of Poland, Krzysztof Dośla, Chairman of the Gdańsk Region Board of "Solidarity", Marzena Kruk, Director of the IPN’s Archive, Adam Hlebowicz, Director of the IPN’s National Education Office, Prof. Mirosław Golon, Director of the Institute of National Remembrance, Gdańsk branch, President of Radio Gdańsk Adam Chmielecki, Ph.D., representatives of "Solidarity", a delegation from the European Solidarity Center, representatives of the media, members of institutions, organizations and associations, and inhabitants of Gdańsk.
Before the opening of the exhibition, a delegation headed by Karol Nawrocki, Ph.D. laid flowers at the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers.
