On 10 July 2021, the 80th anniversary of the massacre of Jews in Jedwabne, representatives of the Białystok branch of the Institute of National Remembrance (Katarzyna Opacka, prosecutor of the Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation, Paweł Kornacki, a historian from the local Historical Research Office, who specializes in the Jewish history, and Marek Kawczyński of the Office for Commemorating the Struggle and Martyrdom) laid flowers at the memorial commemorating the murder victims.
In relation with the anniversary, the Institute of National Remembrance held a conference in Warsaw, at which Paweł Kornacki delivered a paper entitled "Jedwabne and Other Anti-Jewish Incidents and Provocations in the Łomża Region: Comparative Analysis”, and took part in a panel discussion of historians. Additionally, the IPN’s Office of National Education in Białystok prepared educational materials on German crimes in the region, entitled Bezirk Bialystok. 1941-1944 German Repressions, while the Institute’s History Point hosted a number of events devoted to the German occupation. The crimes against Poles and Jews will also be the subject of workshops for teachers and students, to be held from the beginning of the school year.
Employees of the Białystok Office for Commemorating the Struggle and Martyrdom laid flowers in 11 locations in the Podlaskie administrative region, where Jews murdered by the Germans during World War II were commemorated.
