A panel debate on the legacy of General Władysław Anders, featuring the IPN’s Deputy President Karol Nawrocki, 25 June 2021

The event marks the unveiling of a bust of General Anders in British National Army Museum.

General Władysław Anders

The National Army Museum, located in London’s Chelsea borough, is one of the most prominent institutions of its kind in Britain. As a result of the work and patriotism of British Poles, on 25 June it will see the unveiling of a General Anders’ bust – the initiative supported by the current director, Mr. Justin Maciejewski, who’s got lots of Polish blood in his veins. The sculpture by Andrzej Pityński, renowned author of the Katyn monument in New Jersey, will praise and promote the knowledge of Polish military effort during WWII.

At 1 p.m. on 25 June, Polish Ambassador in Rome Anna Maria Anders, historian and author of Poland: First to Fight Roger Moorhouse, Director of Gdańsk WWII Museum and the IPN’s Deputy President Karol Nawrocki, and editor of the britishpoles.uk portal George Byczynsky will sit down to debate on General Anders’ legacy. Their discussion can be followed online on the National Army Museum’s website.

The event is being covered by Polish and foreign media – among them “Rzeczpospolita” and britishpoles.uk; the latter organized the fundraising for the bust. Additionally, an official statement is available on the National Army Museum website.

Incidentally, the Institute of Narional Remembrance and the WWII Museum are working together on “A Trail of Hope”, an international project aiming to present and commemorate 116,000 Polish civilians and General Anders’ servicemen, as well as their wartime stories.
