First meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Forum of Historians - Kiev, 2-4 November 2015

After a seven-year break, the Institute of National Remembrance and the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance resumed their historical dialogue. The inaugural meeting of the Polish-Ukrainian Forum of Historians was held in Kiev on 2-4 November 2015. First, organizational issues concerning the work the Forum were discussed. Finally, the main directions and topics of the Forum activity in 2016 were specified. The historians agreed on a number of Forum participants (12 persons), and approved the chairmen of the Polish and Ukrainian groups, which were Professor Yuri Shapoval and Professor Waldemar Rezmer, and confirmed the date of the next meeting of the Forum. It was assumed that the essential chronological range of the Forum work would cover the years 1939-1947.


The following Polish historians participated in the Forum: Prof. Grzegorz Hryciuk, Prof. Grzegorz Mazur, Prof. Grzegorz Motyka, Prof. Jan Pisuliński, Prof. Waldemar Rezmer, Dr. Mariusz Zajączkowski and the Forum Secretary – Dr. Dorota Lewsza. Representatives of the IPN, Deputy of the President of the IPN Dr. Paweł Ukielski and Director of the Office of the President Dr. Krzysztof Persak.


The Ukrainian group consisted of: Prof. Ivan Patrylak, Prof. Ihor Ilyushin, Prof. Leonid Zaszkilniak, Prof. Bohdan Hudź, Director of the UIPN - Dr. Volodymyr Wiatrowycz, Prof. Yuri Shapoval, and the Secretary - Dr. Olena Humeniuk. The meeting was also attended by the Counsel of the Director of the UIPN - Dr. Oleksandr Zinchenko.

During the first meeting of the Forum, on 4 November 2015, two papers were presented: „Overview of the Polish research on the Polish-Ukrainian relations in the years 1939-1947" (speaker Prof. Jan Pisuliński) and „An inventory of issues of the common history of the twentieth century" (speaker Prof. Leonid Zaszkilniak).


Dates of the next meetings were set for March and October 2016.
