Wreath laying by IPN Delegation on the 70th Anniversary of the Massacre in Jedwabne - July 10, 2011

The 70th anniversary of the massacre of Jewish people was commemorated in Jedwabne. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites and its chairman Prof. Władysław Bartoszewski, the Union of Jewish Religious Communities in Poland with the Chairman Piotr Kadlčik and Chief Rabbi of Poland, Mr. Michael Schudrich, representatives of the Chancellery of the President of Poland: Prof. Tomasz Nałęcz and Tadeusz Mazowiecki, and the Ambassador of Israel Mr. Zvi Rav-Ner. The Institute of National Remembrance was represented by Dr. Maria Dmochowska, Deputy President of the IPN and Dr. Krzysztof Persak, Director of the Secretariat of the President of IPN.

The participants of the memorial ceremony were welcomed by Voivod of Podlaski Region Mr. Maciej Żywno. Prime Minister Tadeusz Mazowiecki read a letter from the President of Poland, in which the President pointed out that Jedwabne is not just a name symbolizing the events of the past, but also a dark trace in the memory of Poles. The following speakers were: the chairman of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites , Prof. Bartoszewski , Bishop Mieczyslaw Cisło, Piotr Kadlčik, representative of victims' families Mr. Isaac Levin, and Ambassador Zvi Rav-Ner.
