25th Anniversary of creating The Fighting Solidarity Organization, June 14-17

Under the auspices of Janusz Kurtyka, President of Institute of National Remembrance and Kornel Morawiecki, the President of the Fighting Solidarity Organization Honorary patronage of Lech Kaczyński, President of the Republic of Poland

The Fighting Solidarity Organization (FSO) founded in June 1982 in Wrocław by Kornel Morawiecki, soon spread its activity to other regions of Poland. FSO was set up by those activists of Polish underground who did not agree with the moderate program of the main underground structures represented by Provisional Coordinating Commission (Tymczasowa Komisja Koordynacyjna). FSO gathered advocates of radical actions and determined fight with the communist system.
FSO used to print ca. 100 underground newspapers, organized numerous street demonstations, FSO’s radio broadcasted hundreds of programs in many Polish towns. FSO also actively supported opposition and independence movements in the USSR.
FSO openly claimed “we want to stripe this government of power”. It was second biggest underground organization in the 80s (trade union “Solidarity” was the biggest). Its important role in the struggle with communist system was forgotten after 1989.
The aim of the anniversary events is to recall memory of The Fighting Solidarity Organization and its members after 25 years.
