A Polish Home Army veteran, an activist of the Solidarity movement and veterans' organizations as well as the recipient of the Gdańsk edition of the IPN “Witness of History” award, Cpt. Władysław Dobrowolski passed away on 22 June 2022, at the age of 95.

During the Second World War he was subordinate to August Emil Fieldorf "Nil”. When Martial Law was imposed in Poland, he was active in the underground structures of ‘Solidarity’ - a movement he was a member of since 1980.

The IPN President, Karol Nawrocki attended the funeral ceremony which was held on 29 June in Gdańsk.

Bidding farewell to Captain Władysław Dobrowolski, Karol Nawrocki Ph.D., stressed that the deceased was both his friend and mentor.

“For the past 15 years, Captain Władysław Dobrowolski has continually inspired me and my peers to study Polish history and to maintain a love for the Homeland in our hearts, he said.

“Poland also needed him after 1989. On the one hand as a witness to history, and on the other as a man who personified the values of the Second Polish Republic. (...) Poland also needed Władyslaw Dobrowolski as someone who was always semper fidelis - always faithful to his brothers in arms, and who never forgot about them”, recalled the IPN President during his speech.
