The Cross of Freedom and Solidarity is awarded by the President of the Republic of Poland to members of the 1956—1989 anti-communist opposition in recognition of their activities for the independence and sovereignty of Poland, and respect for human rights in the People's Republic of Poland.

The Cross of Freedom and Solidarity was awarded to 13 people. Additionally, one medal was awarded posthumously.

The ceremony was presided over by Wojciech Fedorowicz, Head of the Archive of the Institute of National Remembrance Białystok Branch.

On behalf of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda, the awards were handed by the IPN Deputy President, Prof. Karol Polejowski.
 

I can say today that thanks to the awarded people I live in a free, independent and democratic Poland. The Cross of Freedom and Solidarity, established just before the 30th anniversary of the “Solidarity’s” birth — is an expression of the tribute the Polish state pays to those who fought for Poland to regain its independence. Today we are recognizing people from different communities. Each of them has a different life story. In the 1980s, most of them were in what should be the prime of life. After 13 December 1981, people had to make the most important decision — whether to continue or to stop the struggle they had started. Now we are awarding those who showed indomitable spirit and perseverance. They have put their health and lives at stake in the fight for free Poland,
