The ceremonial gala of the World Union of Home Army Soldiers held on the 80th anniversary of the transformation of the Union of Armed Struggle into the Home Army took place at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. Letters from the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda and IPN President, Karol Nawrocki addressed to the participants of the ceremony were read out. During the event, the results of the IPN competition "Underground Army. People, Places and the Fight of the Home Army” were also announced. In a letter read out during the opening ceremony, the Polish President expressed his gratitude to all Home Army soldiers.

– We owe today's free and democratic Poland – dear Veterans– to your struggle, courage and sacrifice (...). We see you as our role models in dealing with today's challenges and threats. Especially now, when there is a war on our eastern border, when Ukraine, brutally attacked by Russia, is defending its independence and fighting in the name of the same values ​​of the free world that were defended by the soldiers of the Home Army, we can see how important unwavering faith and unyielding bravery really are for a nation's survival and for its victory – he concluded.

In his letter to the participants, the President of the Institute of National Remembrance stated that the ethos of the Home Army had most definitely survived.

“The Home Army’s fight for freedom was later continued by the post-war anti-communist underground. Even many years later, it served as an inspiration for numerous oppositionists of the Polish People's Republic. Today, in free Poland, it is our duty to make sure that the brave members of the Home Army are not forgotten and to ensure that they occupy their rightful place in history. At the Institute of National Remembrance, we treat this task as an honorable mission. The more so if we can cooperate with the largest and most important veterans' organization of the Home Army - the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, ”he emphasized.

During the ceremony at the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the authorities of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers awarded occasional decorations to veterans and people distinguished in the cultivation of the memory of the Home Army’s activity. The results of the IPN competition entitled "Underground Army. People, Places and the Fight of the Home Army”, held under the honorary patronage of the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, were announced. A conference devoted to the history of the Home Army was also held as part of the event.
