On 23 April 2022, the "History of the 2nd Corps from a Humorous Perspective!" Caricatures by Mieczysław Kuczyński” exhibition presenting the history of this unit of the Polish Armed Forces through caricatures. The event was attended by veterans: Lieutenant Grudzień and Lieutenant Witold Szmidt, representatives of the local Polish community and the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Manchester, as well as employees of the Institute of National Remembrance, headed by Marzena Kruk, the Director of the IPN Archive.

The exhibition was opened by Michał Mazurek, Consul General of the Republic of Poland, who presented the history of the Polish community in Nottingham. Joanna Dardzińska from the IPN Archive prepared an introductory speech about the exhibition itself.

During the meeting, the Director of the IPN Archive, Marzena Kruk, presented the IPN's educational and commemorative project "Trails of Hope. The Odyssey of Freedom ", commemorating, inter alia, the tragic fate of the civilian population evacuated from the USSR together with General Anders’ Army.

The participants were also familiarized with the IPN’s Archive Full of Remembrance project in accordance with which memorabilia and documents submitted by private donors are included in the Institute’s resources.

Moreover, during the event honorary medals were awarded by the board of the Carpathian Rifle Division Assosiation  - President Witold Szmidt and Secretary Kazimiera Janota-Bzowska. This honorable distinction was awarded, among others, to Joanna Dardzińska, an employee of the IPN Archive.

Special educational workshops, with the aid of IPN materials and games were also organized for the younger participants of the event.

The guests had an opportunity to watch films from the resources of the IPN Archive. The first of them: "Monte Cassino", included fragments of film materials portraying the attack of Polish units on the monastery at Monte Cassino in 1944, while the second - "General Anders- less known" - which premiered at the Józef Piłsudski Institute in New York in 1995, contains the recollections of General Anders’ daughter, Anna Anders-Nowakowska and the General’s secretary, Anna Romanowska-Radziejowska.

The event was accompanied by a presentation of the uniforms, weapons and equipment of the soldiers of the 2nd Polish Corps during the attack on Monte Cassino by the "First to Fight" Living History Group.
