One memory, two exhibitions

One memory, two exhibitions

In connection with this year's International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Institute of National Remembrance invites you to the "History Point" — Janusz Kurtyka Educational Center at 21/25 Marszałkowska Street in Warsaw, where two exhibitions are presented: "The Image of Treblinka in the Eyes of Samuel Willenberg" and "German Places of Extermination of Citizens of the Second Polish Republic". Both exhibitions have special educational value.

In the context of the restrictions related the pandemic, we invite groups of secondary school pupils to take part in an online lesson titled: Art in the Time of the Holocaust. Stationary workshops are also possible under sanitary restrictions. These are occasional classes, since they are not included in the offer of the regular activities conducted by our educators.

More about this project and how to take part in the classes

The Image of Treblinka in the Eyes of Samuel Willenberg exhibition depicts everyday life in the camp and the daring revolt of prisoners. We can observe the various stages that each person arriving at the camp had to go through. From leaving the cattle cars, through taking off clothes and shoes, to cutting hair, which for the vast majority preceded death in the gas chamber. The artist also gives voice to individual victims who have become especially engraved in his memory. The exhibits are accompanied by descriptions in Polish, English and Hebrew. The exhibition will be on display until 28 February 2022.

The German Places of Extermination of Citizens of the Second Polish Republic exhibition portrays the present appearance of memorial sites — former German concentration and extermination camps. The artistic photographs, with emotional and personal overtones, are accompanied by descriptions in Polish, English, and German. There is no single experience of a concentration camp. There are as many experiences as there are camps and people — says a quote from a Holocaust survivor. The author of the photographs is Paweł Krupiński, who also runs deathcampsmemorialsite.com website. The exhibition will be on display until 8 February 2022.
