Born in Warmia, he was a Pole by choice. He served his country in times of both war and peace — as a soldier and a civil servant. The story of his life shows how to fight for Poland and also how we can serve our homeland today

said Karol Nawrocki about Lt Col Jan Niemierski during the ceremony

Lt. Jan Niemierski was a participant of the Polish-Soviet War in 1920, commander of the Mazurian Guard, and prisoner of the Auschwitz German concentration and extermination Camp. He was awarded with the Silver Cross of Virtuti Militari, the Cross of Independence and the Gold Cross of Merit.
