Rafał Leśkiewicz, Ph.D., appointed the IPN’s spokesman

Rafał Leśkiewicz has been working for the Institute of National Remembrance since 2001, initially as a junior archivist at the Branch Office for Disclosure and Storage of Documents in Poznań, and then, in the years 2006-2007 as the office head. In 2007, he transferred to the Office Warsaw headquarters, first as its deputy director, and in the years 2010-2016, as director.


In 2016, and then again between 2019 and 2021, Mr. Leśkiewicz served as the deputy director of the Historical Research Bureau, and the representative of the IPN’s President for research on wartime German occupation terror in Poland. In the years 2017-2019, he headed the Institute’s IT Department. Appointed the director of the Central Information Technology Center by the Digital Affairs Minister in 2016, he was the Ministry expert until 2020, and currently, he’s working at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.


Since 2019, he has been the editor-in-chief of the https://przystanekhistoria.pl/ website.


Mr. Leśkiewicz authored, co-authored or edited over 150 academic, popular science and media publications on modern history, as well as on archival and computer sciences. He was one of the creators of the Symposia Archivistica series, as well as co-editor of its first two volumes. In addition to his publishing activities, he participated in several dozen academic conferences in Poland and abroad.


His texts appeared in, among others, “Głos Wielkopolski”, “Rzeczpospolita”, “W Sieci Historii”, “Do Rzeczy Historia”, “Nasz Dziennik”, “Independent Polish Gazette”, as well as “Dzieje Najnowsze”, “The Institute of National Remembrance Archival Review”, “Memory and Justice” and “The Apparatus of Repression in People's Poland in the Years 1944-1989”.


He has post-graduate diplomas from the Poznań University of Economics course (Management of the Economy of Local Governments and State Public Entities, 2004), the Warsaw School of Economics (Przywództwo 2.0, 2016) and the Warsaw University of Technology studies (IT Management in Public Administration, 2018), holds several international professional certificates (PRINCE2, MoR, MSP, ITIL, Scrum Master, UX-PM Level 1-3), and is a fluent speaker of English.


Mr. Leśkiewicz is a great enthusiast of new technologies, and promoter of digital humanities. In his spare time, he is passionate about basketball and water sports.
