The Years of Occupation and Enslavement. Jews and Poles in the Face of Totalitarian Regimes of 1939–1956, Warsaw 6–7 July 2021

The Institute of National Remembrance is hosting a scientific conference " The Years of Occupation and Enslavement. Jews and Poles in the Face of Totalitarian Regimes of 1939–1956”. The event is taking place on 6–7 July at the IPN’s “History Point” Educational Center in Warsaw (21/25 Marszałkowska Street).

Polish-Jewish relations have long aroused unflagging interest among both scholars and the general public with numerous monographs, collections of documents and texts having been published on the subject. They are also accompanied by heated discussions which are held not only in university lecture halls, but also in the media. The history of Polish-Jewish relations is marked by two tragic events – a mass murder of Jewish residents of Jedwabne in 1941 and the Kielce pogrom in 1946.

These two topics became the basis for the lectures and panel discussions taking place during the conference. The participants of the event are presenting the latest findings and opinions on the fate of Polish Jews in the first months after the German invasion of the Soviet Union and in the first years of communist rule in post-war Poland. The meeting is also an opportunity to identify the less explored areas of research.

During the conference, the lectures are being delivered by representatives of the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, the Warsaw Ghetto Museum, the Ignatianum Jesuit University in Cracow, the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce, the University of Rzeszów, the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, the University of Warsaw, the Jewish Historical Institute, the University of Gdańsk, the Yad Vashem Institute, the Museum of the Second World War and the Polish Academy of Sciences.
