An international scientific conference 'Reappraisal of Communist Dictatorship. 25 Years of European Experience: Achievements and Failures' was held in Warsaw. The conference started with a lecture by President of IPN Dr. Łukasz Kamiński.
The discussion was divided into four sessions. Goran Lindblad (moderator), Réka Földváryné Kiss, Gunārs Nāgels, Vesna Teršelič and Andrzej Zawistowski dealt with the question how to talk about communism. The question about the benefits of opening the communist police archives was addressed by Paweł Machcewicz (moderator), Petr Blažek, Antoni Dudek, Roland Jahn, Ondrej Krajňák and Rafał Leśkiewicz. The debate about the prosecution of communist crimes was held by Egils Levits (moderator), Andrei Muraru, Krzysztof Persak and Neela Winkelmann. Finally the question whether the vetting procedure had fulfilled its role was dealt with by Andrzej Paczkowski (moderator), Roman David, Hubertus Knabe, Boštjan Kolarić and Monika Nalepa. The sessions were held in three languages: Polish, English and German.
