With the New Year just round the corner, we’re looking at the past 365 days, recollecting the wealth of projects and initiatives we carried out by ourselves and partnered in, originated and joined, funded and co-funded. These scientific, research, educational, artistic, and commemorative enterprises all served the broad purpose of teaching and promoting Polish history at home and abroad. The response they generally met with ranged from genuine approval to glowing reviews.
An example of the latter that we’re particularly proud of was "The Image of Treblinka in the Eyes of Samuel Willenberg", an exhibition of sculptures depicting hell on earth, made by a man who went to that hell and returned. Since they appealed not only to art lovers but also to intrinsic human sensitivity, they struck a chord with wide audiences. Best of all, they turned out to be a perfect educational resource, which the Institute took advantage of with the help of the artist’s wife, Ms. Ada Willenberg.
