The National Day of Remembrance to honor the Polish victims murdered in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia by Ukrainian nationalists was established by resolution of the Seym (the lower chamber of the Polish Parliament) of 22 July 2016. It is intended to commemorate the victims of the Volhynia Massacre and other murders of citizens of the Second Polish Republic carried out by Ukrainian nationalists during World War II. The day marks the anniversary of the so-called Bloody Sunday (11 July 1943), the climax of the mass extermination of Polish civilians in Volhynia by the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army UPA, and supported by the local Ukrainian population.

We remind you that on the occasion of the anniversary of the crime, the IPN has launched its Database of Victims of Volhynia Massacre. It is now available on-line on the website zbrodniawolynska.pl (the English language version: https://volhyniamassacre.eu/; the Ukrainian language version at.: https://wolynskyjzloczyn.eu/)  in the tab 'Baza Ofiar'. where one can find information about people murdered by Ukrainian nationalists. An interactive map of the crime, marking the murder sites associated with the victims' data and other facts described in the database, will be an integral part of the project.

At present, the Database has about 17,000 entries and it will be successively updated.

The agenda:

• 10:30 am – Holy mass for the victims of the genocide carried out by Ukrainian nationalists on the citizens of the Second Polish Republic and the fallen, deceased and living soldiers of the 27th Volhynia Infantry Division of the Home Army (Field Cathedral of the Polish Army).

• 12:00 – laying flowers and wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

• 1 pm – joint prayer, an appeal for remembrance combined with the laying of wreaths and flower bouquets at the Monument to the Victims of Genocide carried out by Ukrainian nationalists on the citizens of the Second Polish Republic in the south-eastern voivodships in the years 1942–1947.

• 1:45 pm – laying flowers and wreaths at the monument to the 27th Volhynia Infantry Division of the Home Army on the Wołyński square (Gdańska Str.) .
