International Conference in Budapest on 3-4 October 2007

Historical Archive of State Security of Hungary organized an international conference in Budapest on 3-4 October 2007 at occasion of a decade of its existence. Conference was inaugurated by Katalin Szili, Chairwoman of the Hungarian Parliament with the participation of representatives of Office of the Federal Commissioner for the Records of the National Security Services of the former DDR (BStU), National Council for the Search of Security Archives of Rumania (CNSAS), Slovakian Institute of Nation’s Memory (UPN) and Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) represented by the president Janusz Kurtyka. During discussions, the participants exchanged their views, experiences and remarks on the activities of institutions headed by them. They brought up the subject of structural organization of the institutions, the number and variety of documents, which are placed in archives and the access to them. The essential subjects were also the issue of vetting, the methods and rules of its execution in particular countries as well as widely interpreted educational activity. The meeting ended with common press conference with participation of György Gyarmati and Hans Altendorf.
