Presentation of the album “The Millennium of Christening or the 1000. Anniversary of Polish State”.

On 29th November, 2006 at the place of the Conference of the Episcopacy of Poland there was held a promotion of the new album edited by the IPN: “The Millennium of Christening or the 1000. Anniversary of Polish State”. The album is dedicated to events of the year 1966 in Poland, when the Catholic Church and people of Poland celebrated the jubilee of christening and the communist administration organized a parallel mass-events dedicated to the 1000. anniversary of Polish State with an aim to distract Polish people’s minds from the religious ceremonies.
The presentation was opened by HE Bishop Piotr Libera, Secretary General of the Conference of the Episcopacy of Poland. An introductory speech was given by Dr. Maria Dmochowska, Vice-President of the IPN, in which she pointed out that “celebrations of the Jubilee of Christening of Poland must not be forgotten. It is thanks to those events that Polish Nation felt free for a moment.” A brief presentation of a genesis of the album was given by Mr. Bartłomiej Noszczak, a historian of the educational branch of the IPN and the co-author of the publication.
After the presentation numerous participants were given the opportunity of watching the documentary: “Anniversary of Polish State vs. Millennium of Christening 1966-1967”.
At the end of the event Prof. Wiesław Chrzanowski gave his speech, in which he told the participants about his recollections of the events of 1966 in Poland. He said that those celebrations were crucial for the relations between the Catholic Church and the communist rule of Poland as well as for the attitude of Polish people. The speech of Professor Chrzanowski will be published in one of the next editions of the IPN Bulletin.
From 29th November till 19th December, 2006 in the IPN’s place at 21/25 Marszałkowska street in Warsaw an exhibition: “1966 – Millennium vs. 1000. Anniversary. Celebrations of the Millennium of Christening of Poland and of the 1000. Anniversary of Polish State” will be opened.
