The unveiling of the plaque commemorating the outbreak of the First Silesian Uprising in Piotrowice near Karviná, 16 August 2019

The ceremony was attended by Dr Jarosław Szarek, President of the IPN and Dr Andrzej Sznajder, Director of the IPN Branch Office in Katowice.

Upon the request of the Silesian Uprising Museum in Świętochłowice, the IPN Branch Office for Commemorating the Struggle and Martyrdom in Katowice funded a plaque commemorating the place of the outbreak of the First Silesian Uprising in Piotrowice near Karviná in the territory of today's Czech Republic. Its unveiling took place on 16 August 2019 in Piotrowice near Karviná (Petrovice at Karviné) in the Czech Republic. This is the first commemoration of the Silesian Uprisings outside Poland carried out by the Institute of National Remembrance.

The event began with a discussion panel "The First Silesian Uprising in visual arts, film and music", and was accompanied by the opening of the exhibition entitled "Silesia - Road to Independence". The next point was the unveiling of the commemoration, after which the participants of the ceremony listened to the concert "About my Silesia" performed by the Stanisław Hadyna "Śląsk" Song and Dance Ensemble and the SBB band with Józef Skrzek. The participants also watched a reenactment of the outbreak of the uprising. A night rally (run, march, bicycle ride) to Godów, in which one of the first battles of the First Silesian Uprising took place 100 years ago, was a further attraction of the event.

The ceremony was organized as part of the nationwide 'Towards Independence' celebration. The 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First Silesian Uprising took place, among others, under the honorary patronage of Dr Jarosław Szarek, President of the Institute of National Remembrance and Dr Andrzej Sznajder, Director of the IPN Branch in Katowice.

The ceremony was attended by: Dr Jarosław Szarek - President of the IPN and Dr Andrzej Sznajder - Director of the Katowice Branch of the IPN, Izabella Wołłejko-Chwastowicz - Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Ostrava, Halina Bieda - Director of the Silesian Uprising Museum in Świętochłowice (the main organizer of the event) and Jadwiga Karolczyk - Chairperson of the Local Board of the Polish Association of Cultural and Educational Association in Piotrowce near Karviná. The Czech side was represented by Dr Marian Lebiedzik - staroste of Piotrowice near Karviná.
