Historians from Uzbekistan visit the Institute

On 16-18 October 2018, upon the invitation of the President of the Institute of National Remembrance, a delegation of historians from Uzbekistan was hosted in Poland. The members of the delegation  included: Dr. Bahtiyor Hasanov (Director of the Museum of Victims of Political Repression in Tashkent), Murod Zikrullaev (Deputy Director of the Museum of Victims of Political Repression in Tashkent), Dr Alisher Sobirov (historian of the Nizami Tashkent State Pedagogical University) and Dr Azalshox Hamroyev from the Bukhara State University.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the possibilities of formalizing archival and historical cooperation and exchange of scientific and educational experiences between the Institute of National Remembrance and the Museum of Victims of Political Repression in Tashkent and other academic centers in Uzbekistan. The Institute of National Remembrance has already declared interest in gaining access to documents stored in Uzbek museums and archives concerning the so-called Polish operation in Soviet Uzbekistan in 1937-1938 (more than 500 Poles were subjected to repressions at that time), materials devoted to several waves of deportation and repatriation of Poles in the 1940s and to archives documenting the fate of Poles in Uzbekistan during World War II.

The arrival of the foreign delegation is the result of the visit of the representatives of the Institute of National Remembrance in Uzbekistan on 7 and 8 June 2018, which took place thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland.
