Further five plaques were unveiled on the grounds of the Ulma Family Museum of Poles Saving Jews during World War II in Markowa to commemorate those who saved Jews from the Holocaust. The ceremonies were attended by Polish President Andrzej Duda and his wife. The Institute of National Remembrance was represented by its Deputy President, Mateusz Szpytma, Ph.D.

The Polish President also inaugurated the establishment of the Committee for the Celebrations Accompanying the Beatification of the Ulma Family. Its aim is to disseminate knowledge about the Ulma family and cultivate the memory of the Poles who saved Jews during World War II. The committee includes Mateusz Szpytma. During the celebrations, the IPN Deputy President also gave a lecture about the Uma Family entitled “Ulma – the heritage of Poland”.

On 17 December 2022, Pope Francis approved the decree on the martyrdom of the Ulma family and has authorized the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints to publish it. The beatification of the Ulma family will take place on 10 September 2023 in Markowa, Poland. The Ulma family serves as a symbol of those Poles who died at the hands of the Germans for helping Jews during the German occupation of Poland.

24 March is National Day of Remembrance of Poles who rescued Jews under German occupation. It is the anniversary of the death of the Ulma family from Markowa in the Podkarpacie region, executed by German gendarmes for hiding Jews. The day honors the memory of all Poles who, in spite of great danger, brought help to the Jewish population. Established by the Polish parliament, the holiday has been celebrated since 2018.
