On Mach 17th, 2008 an award ceremony took place in the Ukrainian Embassy in Warsaw, during which the President of Institute of National Remembrance was granted a decoration, through the decree of the President of Ukraine – Victor Yushchenko. The „For the accomplishments” medal of the 3rd degree was presented by His Excellency, Ambassador of Ukraine – Oleksandr Mocyk.

The decoration – as highlighted by the Ambassador – was awarded for the significant personal input in the cause of strengthening of the prestige of Ukraine in the world, popularization of its history and contemporary issues. The Ambassador called upon specific examples of cooperation between the Institute of National Remembrance and the Ukrainians, such as the publishing of several volumes of documents about the common and harsh past, as well as for the organization by the Institute of the exhibition entitled “The Great Hunger in the Ukraine”. This is the expansion of common reconciliation between the two neighboring nations, which chose the common European way; it is an example of cooperation despite the history – said the Ambassador. While thanking, prof. Janusz Kurtyka stated that it was a very important day for the IPN, which is doing all in its power, to uncover the truth about Polish – Ukrainian relations.
