A Visit of the American judiciature representative in the Chief Commission

On Thursday representative of the US Justice Department David Alan Rich, historian of the US Department of Justice in Washington D.C. visited the seat of the Chief Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation. The meeting was attended by Dr Mateusz Szpytma, Deputy President of the IPN and Prosecutor Andrzej Pozorski, Director of the Chief Commission.

IPN representatives talked with the American guest, among others, about the investigation conducted by the Institute - a requested provisional arrest warrant  of Michael K., a US citizen. The motion was prepared by the IPN prosecutorial division in Lublin in March this year, and the Polish court has already taken it into account.

Michael K. is accused of committing crimes against humanity and war crimes in July 1944. He was then a commander of the Ukrainian Self-Defense Legion collaborating with the Germans. The legion murdered 44 rural inhabitants and burned down the surrounding buildings.

The Prosecutor of the Institute of National Remembrance has also announced the IPN seeking for extradition of Michael K.

Prosecutor Jacek Nowakowski, head of the Branch Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation in Lublin and Prosecutor Dariusz Antoniak were also present.
