Dr. Jarosław Szarek appointed as President of the IPN – Warsaw, 22 July 2016

 

A day before, the Parliament of the Republic of Poland appointed Dr. Jarosław Szarek for a five-year term as President of the Institute of National Remembrance.

On 18 July this year the Council of the IPN chose Dr. Szarek from among four participants in the contest for the President of the Institute.

Dr. Jarosław Szarek (b. 1963) graduated from the Faculty of History of the Jagiellonian University. After 13 December 1981 he engaged in opposition activities; he participated in giving assistance to internees and the imprisoned. He distributed and printed underground newspapers. An employee of the branch of IPN in Cracow and author of numerous articles and history books about the newest Polish history.
