International Conference
Jewish elites and Jewish community leaders during the Second World War (1939-1945)
Kraków, 27–29 October 2015

International conference „Jewish elites and Jewish community leaders during the Second World War (1939-1945)” is organized by the Institute of National Remembrance in cooperation with the Institute of Jewish Studies at the Jagiellonian University and the Galicia Jewish Museum in Kraków. The main goal of the conference is to discuss the functioning of Jewish elites and Jewish community officials during World War II. It is an attempt to find answers to questions of the continuity of pre-war military elite patterns and changes resulting from the reality of war and occupation. The conference also seeks to define the term „Jewish elites”, as well as to review the research already carried out on this topic. One of the most important goals of the conference is to describe a comprehensive approach to the history and the role of elites and Jewish community leaders in the said period by presenting their achievements, attitudes, behaviour, mentality, and the mechanisms which defined their acts.

The conference will be held in Polish and English (simultaneous translation will be provided).

Conference participation is free of charge.
