Description

On October 24 Marek Hańderek, historian from IPN's Public Education Office took part in "International Cooperation as the Means toward Solving Civilian Abductions" seminar. It was organized in Seoul by the Korean War abductees' Family Union (KWAFU) with the support of the National Committee on Investigating Abductions during the Korean War and the Lawyers for Human Rights and Unification of Korea. KWAFU brings together South Korean families whose loved ones have been kidnapped by the communist North Korea during the Korean War. This crime affected nearly 100 thousand civilians and their fate has not been explained until today.

The seminar was one of several projects organized by KWAFU which aims at publicizing the crime and to reflect on how to make North Korea to disclose information about it. IPN was asked to present the problem of kidnapping and deportation of Polish citizens to the Soviet Union and to discuss the investigations, which are carried out by prosecutors of the Institute.
