Description

The exhibition "The Destruction of the Polish elite. Action AB - Katyn, "prepared by the Office of Public Education of the Institute of National Remembrance was presented on April, 9-18 2013 at Columbia University in New York. The opening ceremony, attended by the vice President of the IPN Agnieszka Rudzińska, was held on April 9, 2013 at 6 PM. During the exhibition's opening Przemysław Gasztołd-Seń from Institute of National Remembrance delivered lecture devoted to the Katyn Massacre and Action AB (Lindsay Rogers Room 707, International Affairs Building, Columbia University).

The exhibition depicts the extermination of the Poles by German and Soviet invaders in the early years of the World War II, during the close co-operation of the occupants in the period 1939-1941. It is illustrated by the example of two large-scale criminal actions: the Katyn Massacre and of AB Action, carried out in the spring of 1940. Thousands of representatives of the Polish intelligentsia and state elites were deprived of life as a result of those actions.

It was third time the National Remembrance Institute had the opportunity to present its exhibition at Columbia University, which was possible thanks to the close cooperation of the IPN’s Office of Public Education with prof. John Micgiel, an employee of the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University. In previous years IPN presented two exhibitions: "PRL - So Far, So Close" (2010) and "The Phenomenon of Solidarity. Snapshots of Polish History, 1980-1981 "(2011).

The exhibition was on display from 9 to 18 April, 2013 at Columbia University, International Affairs Building (ground floor), 420 West 118th St., New York, NY 10027
