Project "INDEX – In memory of Poles murdered or prosecuted by the Nazis because of their assistance to Jews"

In September 2006, the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) – with the cooperation of the Institute of Strategic Studies, the Head Office of State Archives of Poland, the State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau, and Yad Vashem – launched a project “INDEX – In memory of Poles murdered or prosecuted by the Nazis because of their assistance to Jews”. The main goal of this research project is to assess the scale of Nazi repression against Poles who provided aid to Jews during the Holocaust as well as to establish their names and biographies. The project involves research in archives, libraries, museums as well as collecting eye witnesses’ testimonies, and its results are to be presented in the form of electronic databases, printed publications (Memorial Books), exhibitions, conferences, etc.
Therefore, the IPN is appealing to all eye-witnesses and their descendants for testimonies about the events that are in concern of the INDEX project. The persons eager to assist the IPN with important information are kindly requested to fill the questionnaire and to send it to the following addresses:
