On 18 January 2006 Dr. Janusz Kurtyka, President of the Institute of National Remembrance – Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation, received in his Office a goodwill visit of the Ambassador of Israel in Poland, Mr. David Peleg.
The aim of the meeting was to declare a wish for maintaining in future a close co-operation between the IPN and the Israeli organizations, e.g. Yad Vashem. Ambassador Peleg congratulated Mr. Kurtyka on being elected a new President of the IPN. He also appreciated the IPN’s contribution to creating mutual understanding in relations between Poland and Israel.
Mr. Peleg asked about plans of preparation of anniversaries of the Pogroms in Jedwabne and Kielce. He then invited Mr. Kurtyka to come to Israel and to visit the Yad Vashem institute. The President of the IPN expressed his thanks for congratulations and for the invitation to Jerusalem. He also told Mr. Peleg about numerous publications and projects concerning Polish-Israeli issues, which are being prepared by historians of the IPN and asked the Ambassador for attending the events organized by the IPN.
During the meeting it was also decided, that the Director of the IPN’s Public Education Office would prepare a list of publications of the IPN, which then would be sent to the Embassy of Israel.
