The prize is honorary and its laureates receive the title of the Custodian of National Memory.
In 2019, the prize will be awarded for the eighteenth time. Among the previous prize winners there were: Gen. Janusz Brochwicz-Lewiński "Gryf”, Julien Bryan, ks. Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski, Tadeusz Kukiz, Prof. Władysław Bartoszewski, Kazimierz Piechowski, the late President Lech Kaczyński, the World Association of Home Army Soldiers, the Union of Poles in Belarus, the ""Memorial Society", and others.
This year, next to the late President Ryszard Kaczorowski, the laureates of the "Custodian of National Memory" prize are the propagator of the memory of the victims of the Volhynia Massacre, Janusz Horoszkiewicz, a friend of John Paul II, Prof. Wanda Półtawska, author of publications on the Warsaw Uprising, Marek Strok, and the the Polish Care for Military Graves in Lviv Association
The ceremony is held under the National Patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, in the year of the Centenary of Regaining Independence.
