A bust of Józef Piłsudski as a civilian - wearing a bowler hat and a suit instead of his typical legionnaire's uniform - was unveiled in Canada on 13 August 2023.

The Polish Eagle organization in Victoria and the IPN Office for Commemorating the Struggle and Martyrdom joined forces to honor Józef Piłsudski during the first Polonia Fest in British Columbia. Neither the date nor the place is accidental: the man who would found the Polish Legions and then become Poland’s founding father actually set foot there in August 1904, returning from anti-Russian negotiations in Japan on behalf of the Polish Socialist Party.

Representing the IPN at the event were the Office for Commemorating the Struggle and Martyrdom Director  Adam Siwek and Office of the IPN President Director Adrianna Garnik. A letter from the Institute President, Karol Nawrocki Ph.D., was read out durong the event.

"It is a great joy and satisfaction for us to be able to establish a new Polish memorial site on Canadian land. We remember that Canada and Canadians appear more than once in the history of the Polish struggle for independence . . . In the Polish capital, near the seat of the parliament, there is a monument to the Polish-Canadian brotherhood of arms. In the Canadian cities of Dieppe and Mississauga, the IPN funded memorials to Polish sailors and airmen. Today, we add the Józef Piłsudski monument to the list of Polish memorials in Canada, entrusting it to the "White Eagle" Polish Association with thanks for their kindness and cooperation in the implementation of this project", wrote the IPN President.
